Somewhere
Wear a warm coat
When it's cold
And the north wind comes
To catch you old
I'll be somewhere watching
Through stars of glass
Your fate and mine
Stretched out on canvas
With colours splashed
In streaks of wild
Telling a story of gone summers
When I was a child
Your pretty feet dangling with mine
As we embraced the sun
In loops of laughter
Ready to break into a run
But now that the river has run dry
The horizon become brown
Do you still cast a spell
Or do you put on a frown
Thinking of fifty winters ago
When I packed my bags and left
While you stood chained
To your ground looking bereft
If there is a way out of this
I'll take it straight to you
Buy time off the shelves
To give you your due
But until you hear my footsteps
Remember us by the river
Counting pebbles of gold
In grey January shiver
And don't you forget
To wear a warm coat
When it's cold
And the north wind comes
To catch you old
Because I'll be somewhere watching
